Differential diagnosis and management of postoperative hypertension
Paper presented by Dr Marta Castany during the course Trends in Glaucoma, which was held on 14 and 15 November 2014 on the IMO premises.
Dr Castany focused her presentation on the management of early postoperative hypertension after filtration surgery, basing the diagnostic algorithm on the depth of the anterior chamber: with a narrow anterior chamber without hypotonia, misdirection syndrome and suprachoroidal haemorrhage can be suspected, which are rare, but serious complications that are difficult to control. The expert spent a few minutes talking about suprachoroidal haemorrhages – about their risk factors and the fact that more hypotoning techniques must be avoided in patients showing them – and the misdirection syndrome. She also mentioned the complications related to the technique that can occur with a wide anterior chamber and high pressure and showed a video on the performance of a needling technique.
