What should I know before surgery

The day of your surgery at IMO Miranza Group Barcelona

Before entering the operating room

1. Remember:
   • If your surgery requires fasting, follow the guidelines previously indicated by the anesthesiologist.
   • Do not use facial cosmetics (make-up or creams).
2. It is important that you go with a companion.
3. You must head for the:
   • Reception desk on floor 0, if you do not have to go through preoperative tests.
   • Reception desk on floor 1, if you need to have tests done before the operation.
4. Informed consent:
   • If you were given hard copies, remember to bring them with you on the day of the visit (surgery and anesthesia).
     You and your companion must sign an informed consent form for the surgery.
5. When you arrive, we will identify you and ask you for preoperative tests, if they were not performed at IMO.
6. We will schedule you an appointment for the postoperative visit, which can take place the same day or the next day.
7. We will accompany you to a room, in which:
   • We will verify your data and put an identification bracelet on you.
   • We will measure your temperature.
   • If necessary, we will insert eye drops.
8. We will accompany you to a dressing room and we will give you the surgical clothing that you will have to wear during the operation (cap, gown and surgical socks).
9. You will be able to keep your clothes and personal objects in a locked closet.
10. In the same dressing room, we will give you the surgical mask, which you will have to wear during the surgery. In addition, we will apply hydroalcoholic gel to your hands before entering the operating theater.

In the operating theatre

1. You will access the pre-operative area on a stretcher, where we will accommodate you. At this time, we will check your data again. Do not doubt to ask us for a blanket, if you feel cold.
2. We will begin to instill the eye drops and disinfect the eye area before surgery.
3. The anesthesiologist will confirm your data again, as well as your medical history. He will also check your medication intake and fasting.
4. All the operating room staff will be with you during the operation and the rest of your stay in the surgical area.
5. During the surgery, the surgical team (surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurse and operating room technician) will be aware of your condition at all times.
6. At the end of the surgery, we will closely follow your recovery in the recovery area.
7. While you are recovering, the surgeon will talk to your companion:
   • He/she will inform you about the surgery and the post-operative
   • will give you a a vanity case with the medication and the guidelines for taking or applying it. You will have to follow it until the next visit with the ophthalmologist.
8. Once the anesthesiologist considers that you have recovered, he will discharge you and give you his postoperative recommendations. Depending on the type of surgery, you will leave IMO with your eye
   covered or uncovered and will need to continue that way until your post-operative visit.

During your surgery, if your companion needs to leave the surgical waiting room, we can provide him/her with a device that will let him/her know when he/she can pick you up, at the end of the surgery.

During your stay at the surgical area, our team will be looking after you at all times

We remind you that

1. You will be able to have consultations with your ophthalmologist, free of charge, for up to 2 months after the surgery.
2. IMO has a 24-hour emergency service.
3. At all times, an ophthalmologist from our team will be able to attend you in person or by telephone (93 400 07 00).
4. We also offer video consultations for patients who are unable to travel. To program it, you can call us by phone (93 400 07 00) or fill out the form on our website.

Other services

1. We have our own parking lot, with entrance from the Ronda de Dalt (exit 7 – mountain side). First 30 minutes, free of charge.
2. We have waiting rooms, especially designed for children.
3. The clinic has a cafeteria-restaurant, open from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 7 pm. You will also find vending machines in the outside garden, on the 0 floor.
4. In the main reception (floor 1) we have lockers with keys, where you can keep your luggage.
