What is IMO?

The Ocular Microsurgery Institute (IMO) is an ophthalmology clinic dedicated to the treatment of ocular diseases as well as the protection and preservation of vision. Our primary goal from the very beginning has been to offer top quality ophthalmic care and ensure the very best personal and professional care for our patients.

The IMO’s new building

The architectural design of the IMO’s new building, by the architect Josep Llinàs, is based on the unique location of the building, surrounded by nature and with spectacular views. Full prominence has been given to the south-facing facade, from which the entire city to the sea can be viewed.
The well thought-out geometry of the building has been specially designed for its function as an ophthalmology clinic. The shapes, structures, windows and roofs intersperse the light and adjust it to the different spaces to ensure maximum visual comfort for patients and staff.

To this end, we have a high degree of knowledge, dedication and research work at our disposal, as well as the most innovative technology for the diagnosis and treatment of all pathologies that affect vision.

  • The subspecialisation of our doctors ensures optimum care for each pathology, not to mention the rest of our team, who works on a daily basis to improve patient care, medical care and organisation.
  • The pathologies treated at the IMO include cataracts, retinal detachment, eye problems in children, strabismus, glaucoma, macular degeneration, uveitis, diseases of the eyelids and the orbit, corneal diseases, myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

In addition to a high level of care, the IMO is noted for its research work, its participation in numerous international, multi-centre studies and its teaching, reflected in the continuous training of our medical and health staff, as well as the preparation of new subspecialisations through the IMO’s teaching department, in conjunction with the Autonomous University of Barcelona, founded in 2000 and headed by Dr Borja Corcóstegui, the director of the IMO.
