Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
AMD, or Age-related Macular Degeneration, is a degenerative disease of the macula, the central area of the retina, which causes progressive deterioration of the cells and the retinal pigment epithelium. It causes a loss of central vision.

How to act?
- Regular ophthalmic check-ups over the age of 50. The onset of AMD can be fast or progressive. Early diagnosis is essential to be able to treat it and slow down its evolution.
- Keep a healthy lifestyle: not smoking, eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, and monitoring your blood pressure.
- Patients over the age of 50 should also self-diagnose with the Amsler grid, a simple test to detect the early signs of AMD. You can download it (along with the instructions to take the test correctly) at this link.
