What does it involve?
Corneal cross-linking involves subjecting the cornea to ultraviolet radiation to strengthen it and slow down deformation caused by keratoconus.
When is it carried out?
In keratoconus patients who still have good visual acuity, but successive tests show that it is progressing.
Comprehensive eye examination and corneal topography.
The duration of the intervention is long (approx. one hour). It is performed under topical anaesthesia and on an outpatient basis.
After the surgery
Patients usually suffer discomfort for 3-4 days after surgery. The use of therapeutic contact lenses and analgesics can reduce pain and discomfort.
There are no significant risks.
