Rocco and his family came all the way from the United States to see Dr Ramón Medel at IMO Grupo Miranza Barcelona. Discover his story!
Eyelid ptosis (drooping eyelids) in both eyes
Our little patient was born with congenital eyelid ptosis (drooping eyelids) in both eyes, a condition that affected him aesthetically and visually, due to the eyelid occluding the eyeball, hence preventing good vision development.
Thus, his parents decided to investigate this disease, which is generally caused by a poor development of the muscle that raises the upper eyelid. After visiting US experts, they were unable to find a solution, so they conducted an exhaustive search to find the best expert in congenital eyelid ptosis.
He always had his chin up so that he could see properly, and this worried us with regard to the consequences it could have on his neck.

From the video consultation to Barcelona

Eventually, they found several online testimonials from patients with the same pathology, who managed to solve it at IMO Grupo Miranza, and decided to schedule a teleconsultation. During this video call, Dr Ramón Medel was able to inform the family about the diagnosis and the best treatment for Rocco. Once at our clinic in Barcelona, after examining the child onsite, the specialist confirmed that, in his case, frontl flap surgery was the rpocedure of choice.
This surgical technique, pioneered by Dr Ramón Medel in Spain, consists of solving ptosis by repairing the tendon responsible for lifting the eyelid so that it has a normal tone.
Patients usually see the first results within the first few days after surgery and, after the postoperative period, both eyelids are symmetrical and have no visible marks, as incisions are made in the eyelid crease.
Rocco had bilateral ptosis that was affecting his vision and his psychomotor development.
