Opening our eyes to other worlds

Opening our eyes to other worlds

The IMO is also committed to transferring its experience and knowledge to ophthalmologists in the world’s most deprived countries. This work is carried out through the Eyes of the world Foundation, which is dedicated to eradicating preventable blindness in the world. The IMO is a founding member of the Foundation and plays an active role, not only in training, but also in organising volunteer work in eye committees bound for these countries.

“The work of the Foundation is not only to treat eye problems, but also to train professionals to ensure that our work will continue in the future.”

Dr Ana Wert, a paediatric ophthalmology specialist at the IMO

First-class facilities

In the last decade, the IMO’s team has been the driving force behind the most ambitious project in the private ophthalmology sector in Spain: the opening of its new facilities in Barcelona in July 2009. The new IMO, which, in terms of scale and advanced technological resources, has become a leading ophthalmic centre in Europe, was built to accommodate all of the services necessary to maintain its leading role in ophthalmic eye care, research and training in Spain.

“This major investment has been driven by standards of medical excellence to improve patient care rather than by corporate profitability.”

Francisca Rodriguez, Executive Director of the IMO
