What does it involve?

Acetazolamide is a diuretic drug in tablet form derived from sulfamide. The drug lowers intraocular pressure by reducing the formation of aqueous humour.

When is it carried out?

Acetazolamide is prescribed when intraocular pressure cannot be sufficiently controlled by eye drop treatment or if it has caused marked intolerance.

Prior examination

Comprehensive eye examination.

Surgery

Treatment is usually temporary, often prior to glaucoma surgery, which definitively reduces intraocular pressure.

Precautions

There are no significant precautions or risks to take into account.
