What does it involve?

Transscleral cyclophotocoagulation with diode laser is a surgical procedure. The laser is applied to the area of the eye that produces aqueous humour (the ciliary body) to decrease the production of liquid and, therefore, intraocular pressure.

When is it carried out?

Since it is a cyclodestructive procedure, it is usually used as a second-line treatment, when there is no possibility of other types of surgery for glaucoma or when the patient has low vision.

Prior examination

Comprehensive eye examination.

Surgery

This procedure is fast, because it is not intraocular and no incisions or sutures are necessary.

Precautions

No risks or special precautions need to be taken into account.
