The Retina and Vitreous Department is responsible for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the retina (the layer of tissue at the back of the eye that perceives light and sends images to the brain), the uvea (the middle layer of the eye that supplies most of the blood flow to the retina) and the vitreous (a gel located between the retina and the lens that helps maintain the eye’s shape and ensures that the surface of the retina is uniform).
