Education

Rafael Navarro obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and General Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1990.

Later, he held a residency position in the Ophthalmology Department at the Autonomous University of Barcelona’s Valle de Hebrón Hospital under the supervision of Dr Corcóstegui.

Speciality

His area of specialisation and research is macular diseases, with special interest in macular degeneration associated with age, hereditary retinal dystrophies and diabetic retinopathy; he has been involved in numerous international multicentric clinical trials on these topics.

Professional experience

He has been an attending physician in the Ophthalmology Department at Barcelona’s Juan XXIII Hospital.

Attending Physician in the Vitreoretinal Department at Barcelona’s San Pablo Hospital and Clinical Hospital.

He was incorporated into the Ocular Microsurgery Institute’s Vitreoretinal Department in 2000.

Teaching

He has been an associate professor of Ophthalmology at the Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona.

Research
