Specialisation

Dr González-Candial is an expert on aesthetic reconstruction of eyelids and the middle and upper part of the face, orbital surgery (including orbital tumours and reconstructions consecutive to diseases and trauma), lacrimal tract surgery and cosmetic surgery.

He is currently interested in the development of micro-incision and minimally invasive surgical techniques as well as the treatment of Graves’ disease and thyroid ophthalmopathy.

Professional activities

He worked as a specialist in ophthalmology at Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Barcelona (Can Ruti).

He currently works in the Ophthalmic, Orbital and Lacrimal Tract Plastic Surgery Unit of the Ocular Microsurgery Institute of Barcelona.

He has been invited as a guest speaker by ophthalmic and oculoplastic societies in countries such as Italy, Switzerland, the UK, Algeria, India, the USA, Egypt, the Philippines, the UAE and Tunisia, as well as by the ESOPRS.

He has appeared as an invited guest lecturer on the oculoplastics course of the Middle East and African Congress of Ophthalmology.

He has appeared as an invited oculoplastics guest speaker at the conference of the Mediterranean Ophthalmology Society (Tunisia).

He has appeared as an invited guest lecturer on the European Society of Ophthalmic and Orbital Plastic Surgery course.

T eaching

Visiting lecturer in ophthalmology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Research

He is currently involved in active research projects on the dynamics of orbital anatomy, Graves’ disease (thyroid orbitopathy) and laser technology applications in cosmetic surgery.

 

Member of ESOPRS (the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery).

Member of ASOPRS (the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery).

He is the only European member of this society’s international committee.

Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Member of Pan-american Academy of Ophthalmology.

 

He has published several scientific articles in international and national journals and has participated in books on the specialisation as editor and contributor to chapters.
